On the way to the doc’s office, I was rear-ended. Annd scene:
I’m driving down the road toward the on ramp to the interstate. The drive from my house to the Doc’s office is fortunately not that far, so the drive should be fairly quick- drive down the road, get on the interstate for one exit, get off, turn, park. I’m in the turning lane to make the left onto the on ramp and I come to a stop because there’s oncoming and the guy’s not far enough away to turn in front of him clean [as in not getting tagged]. I see out the corner of my eye that there’s a black something that’s filling my rear view mirror..fast. I look because the last time something black was filling my rear view and fast, the lady rear ended me..hard. So I look while hoping that whoever was paying attention would stop in time to -not- hit me. It’s a black SUV and she’s pretty much attached to my bumper from how she and her vehicle have filled my rear view. I see this woman..yelling at me because I’m not turning -into oncoming traffic- when she wants me to. First and second thoughts were f’ck you, I’m not turning into oncoming traffic so back the f’ck away from my car. The incident could have been left at that- she gets her yell on to make herself feel whatever and I get to my appointment unabated while bearing witness to once again that People are Stupid and how much I don’t like them. But no, it doesn’t end there. So as she, I assume, continues to yell at me I’m watching oncoming and as they’re nearly past me I let my foot off the brake cause I’m getting ready to turn. That’s when she hits me..twice..from.a.stopped.position. You talk about mad? The whole accident deal with reporting it, filing a claim is mostly annoying..cause you have to deal with your insurance doing their stupid dance, particularly if you have to do the whole repairs thing [and I knew that I would have to]. I put it in park, turn off my car, she’s yelling at me in her vehicle trying to get me to turn cause now there’s no oncoming traffic and thus no excuse. Except you just hit me. She continues to berate me until she sees me come out, eyes on her dead on until they avert to inspect my bumper. She opens her door, notedly does not get out just yet and I’m guessing from my expression, she sees that 1) I’m not happy and 2) she’s not going to get away with it.
She gets out and says she’s sooo sorry, complete with a fake smile. ‘You’re sorry…while you were yelling at me in my rear view mirror to go when you wanted me to.’ Her mouth literally picked itself up from the ground. She asks me if I want her information. I know the look I gave her asked her ‘rhetorical..right?’ “Yeah I do.” She knows this won’t be one of those, well there’s no damage, I’m not hurt, you’re not..no sense in making a fuss incidents as she goes back to get her information. I’m guessing she thought her attitude was in your face or something because she tried to say mostly to herself ‘well, learn how to drive’ and bolster her bruised whatever it was I obviously hurt, except I heard her..and as she looked up to hand me her driver’s license..she knew I did.
Learn how to drive. I know my brow perked and I wanted to say ‘Says the person that obviously doesn’t know the difference between her brake and the accelerator’, but the less I said, the better. Though since it was obviously I heard her and that she didn’t get a rise outta me, nor was I myself backing down from what I guess was supposed to be an insult..she lost the ‘I am’ vibe about her when the first thing she saw me write down was her driver’s license number. I could hear the ‘oh shit’ she didn’t say at that moment. Which tells me she took me for someone that didn’t know how this whole accident thing goes and realized she wouldn’t be getting outta it. She tries to diffuse the situation with, ‘well it’s not much damage’ [translation: I don’t know what you’re all upset about while convincing herself the insurance hike shouldn’t be that much for her premiums]. And you know what, it’s a slice in the paint. But that’s not the point because a bumper’s designed to absorb so much before the absorbing material is useless. And this is the second time I’ve been rear-ended..which is why I’m not teh happy. Maybe it is nothing. And maybe two times is the charm and it has to be replaced. Not much damage? That’s time, my time that I have to now spend having it looked at and if need be repaired. What will it get you? Prolly the monetary equivalent of a smack on your wrist from your insurance and the fact that you were stopped for a few minutes on the road.
I made a point to get her tags as well because even though she gave me a number to contact her citing she didn’t have her policy on hand [yeah.right], like I’m going to trust her to have a burst of being honest when the thing’s your fault. You know the kicker? She lives literally just across the street from me.
