I am in San Diego. I arrived yesterday. I hadn’t been asleep since I woke up at 4 am the morning prior and I got what sleep I could during the trip over. I figured with a 4 hour flight to California, I could manage. Except Delta messed up with the type plane they were going to cart us over in and we were sardined. I can sleep just about anywhere as long as I’m comfortable. I had a hard time sleeping. And then stayed up until, hell I don’t even know.
I am grateful I decided to get here early enough to where I’d have about a day and a half to just be here before SDCC [San Diego Comic Con] begins. Especially with the whole sleep thing. I’ll be meeting up with a good friend of mine today to just chill before Comic Con. This year will be the first time I actually get to go in person, instead of vicariously through someone else. Which will be just great fun on its own. The fact that I’m not going solo will mean I will get to geek out with fellow geeks/nerds.
I’ve had to sit my mom down and have the ‘Mom. I’m a big girl now. Have been for a long time’ talk regarding transportation and going to the night time events et cetera. I have to have this type of conversation every time I travel anywhere.
‘Remember when I went to Hong Kong..by myself?’
‘Yes.’
‘You sure? Cause you act like I’ve never traveled alone. Which I kinda do alot…with work and all’
I complete it with that trademark look of mine showing there is much glee there and in return I get ‘the look’ that’s felt around the world. When my mom saw in person I could handle getting around on the tube when we were in London, she conceded I could travel alll by myself without ever saying the words out loud. We still have this verbal dance every time I travel. Not that I’m surprised. She’s always going to be my mom. Which means I’ll always get the opportunity to sit her down and tell her ‘Mom. I’mma big girl now.’ To which degree I’m tempted to throw in I’m all grown up and wearing thongs depends on the day. (Have to make sure her hearing’s still spectacular. Honest.)
