I’ve been in the door for a bit. Long enough to put stuff away, get things semi orderly and me just about ready to call it a night [read: moving away from all things living room and comp room and settling up in my bedroom].
I woke up Sat morning, fussing about and left for the parent’s old homestead getting there at 9. Two hours later, with a truck loaded up and two cars, we head to the mountains. I struggled with that last hour of the drive, which felt infinitely longer. Finally we arrive, we grab some eats while Rob and the guys that came to help flex their muscles in a manly way. Mom and I dictate where to put the stuff and seeing as we’re going to be sleeping in the bed, we get the bedroom in order. We spent the night watching Law and Order:SVU and pretty much die halfway through a Criminal Intent episode. Wake up @ 4:30, by 7 we’re pulling into a Waffle House for b-fast. By 8:30 mom and I are driving back to the now old homestead. A little after 11:30, we break out the drop cloths and start painting. I’m sure I’ll feel muscles I never knew I had in my arms tomorrow. By 3 pm we had two rooms painted, another cleaned and the oven was well on it’s way to looking almost brand new. We go out for Chinese, grab some more cleaning supplies at Wal-Mart, check mom into a hotel to spend the next 3 nights in and then she promptly kicked me out, but not before sending me home with some stuff of hers.
About 20 minutes out from my home, she calls to let me know that Rob might have the day off tomorrow, and if that’s so, he’s coming to help clean. She said she’d put him to work an’ I sincerely hope that she does. Both she and I were dead tired, yet we helped him get settled in his place. And seeing that he helped dirty the old homestead, it’s fitting that he help clean it and not leave my mom to do it. I’m eternally grateful that tomorrow is a day off for me…I think I’m going to sleep for most of it. Ye gods, I’m bushed…and in desperate need of a shower. Phew.
